  Aaron Settles

We are real proud of Aaron  for what he has done with the new learning center in Oakland City.

Aaron, Founder and President of the Southern Indiana Junior Golf Association Inc., is originally is from West Central Illinois. He comes from a golfing family. His grandfather not only played golf, but was on the maintenance staff at the local course, Scripps Park, a recreational facility operated by the City of Rushville Illinois.  The land was donated to the city by the Scripps family (the original homestead of E.W. Scripps of the Scripps-Howard Newspaper and Media Moguls).  The local course and community are committed to Junior Golf Programs, and the junior rates are almost nothing.  His uncle was City Champion for seven years( not consecutive), and his brother Chris was city champion 2 years, at Scripps Park.  His brother Neil was city champion in Jacksonville Illinois, and is currently  the Superintendent at  The Jacksonville C.C.   His brother Chris is the Superintendent at Goose Pond Colony. a beautiful 18 hole championship course located in North Eastern Alabama.   His brother Jim,  won local junior tournaments,  and  went on to become a  PGA Club Pro at Burning Tree C.C. in Decatur AL. Jim  is committed to junior programs, and also hosts a big NCAA tourney at his  club.    Aaron has 4 brothers in all.  1  PGA Club Pro, 2 class A Golf Course Superintendents and longtime members of the GCSAA , and 1 is a farmer.  Aaron feels being raised in this community and family environment,  has had a big impact on his families exposure to junior programs and has lead to a vision.

In 96, Aaron resigned from his corporate safety career at JEFFBOAT  to locate in Oakland City Indiana in order to be close to his daughter that was starting high school.

Aaron has this vision that all youth should be exposed to the game of Golf, regardless of disabilities, sex, race, religion, or the ability to afford. With this vision, and the help of his family acting as resources, They have organized the Southern Indiana Junior Golf Association Inc. as a 501c3 organization, which received a grant from the USGA to help build their first Learning Center.  The " For the Good of The Game" program, sponsored by the USGA,  supports "local champions" and shares the goals and vision of the association.  The Learning Center opened 3 years after he had this vision.  Aaron has worked hard to get the Learning Center built and operating.  Aaron is a Safety Professional that works as a safety consultant for major power producing companies and has been a member of the Professional Golf Teachers and Coaches Association since 2001.  You can visit the PGTCA at www.pgtca.com
